Trio SR9

ASBA artist – Trio SR9

Trio SR9 has steadily established itself as a singular force in contemporary percussion, blending classical precision with bold sonic exploration. Today, they are widely regarded as one of Europe’s most innovative and boundary-pushing percussion ensembles.

One might think the name belongs to an experimental rocket designed to explore new galaxies. That’s not quite the case… and yet, in a way, it is. The trajectory of the trio bearing this name, formed in 2012 by Paul Changarnier, Nicolas Cousin and Alexandre Esperet, indeed resembles that of a stellar craft sent out to discover new sonic worlds, ready to make the music of the spheres swing.

Sound-gold prospectors, they collect objects and materials to invent a unique instrumentarium, showcased in Déjà Vu (2022) with Clément Ducol and numerous voices from the French music scene. From classical to pop, they constantly reinvent their identity, as in Venus Rising with singer Kyrie Kristmanson (2024) or in their collaboration with Thomas Fersen (2025).

On stage, their choreographed gestures and boundless creativity turn each performance into a poetic journey. Trio SR9 remains a musical UFO: virtuosic, inventive and profoundly human.

We play on ASBA percussion, a choice that reflects our pursuit of sonic excellence and our commitment to instruments crafted as true artistic partners.
