Fantôme

Fantôme, snare drum ASBA

When the Material Disappears, the Sound Remains.

At ASBA, we never choose a material for the way it looks. We choose it for what it has to say.

The FANTÔME was born from that philosophy. Developed by Franck, our Plastic Process Expert and partner, it is the result of several years of research driven by a simple question: how can the full acoustic potential of acrylic be revealed?

The answer is a snare drum with a truly distinctive voice, where engineering precision meets the craftsmanship of fine instrument making.

Unlike most acrylic shells on the market, the FANTÔME’s shells are cast in Lombardy, Northern Italy—a region where industrial excellence has long gone hand in hand with world-class craftsmanship. Formed as a single seamless piece, with no joints or glue, they offer exceptional optical clarity, a perfectly homogeneous structure, and significantly greater durability than extruded acrylic shells.

But the material is only part of the story.

With a 3 mm shell thickness, each shell is machined using ASBA’s signature bearing edge, then carefully assembled, inspected, and hand-finished in our workshop in Lyon, France.

The FANTÔME delivers a remarkably expressive sound: an immediate attack, outstanding projection, and a harmonic richness that challenges everything people think they know about acrylic drums. Responsive under the lightest touch yet powerful when pushed, it feels equally at home in the studio or on stage.

Like every ASBA instrument, each FANTÔME is built to order, stamped with the date of its final assembly, and hand-signed.

Why Choose a Cast Acrylic Shell?

- Cast as a single seamless piece, with no joints or glue. - More impact-resistant than extruded acrylic. - Exceptional optical clarity. - A more homogeneous structure for highly precise machining. - Excellent resistance to crazing and cracking.
