Metal, snare drum ASBA

Not All Steel Snare Drums Are Chasing the Same Sound.

Some are built for explosive attack and endless overtones. The METAL takes a different path: one of controlled power, precision, and balance, where every note naturally finds its place.

Behind this project is Jean-Marc, better known as “Le 12.” His ambition was simple: to create a steel snare drum that preserves all the power and projection of stainless steel while delivering a level of control rarely achieved with this type of shell.

The result is a snare drum with a bold personality, featuring a crisp attack, impressive projection, and remarkably controlled overtones. Rather than trying to tame steel, the METAL reveals everything that makes it musical.

Its 1 mm brushed stainless steel shell is manufactured in the Forez region of central France, an area with a long-standing tradition of metalworking. Its epoxy powder coating is also sourced from the same region before each snare is carefully assembled, tuned, inspected, and hand-signed in our workshop in Lyon.

From the shell’s manufacture to its finishing and final assembly, the METAL reflects local expertise and a deliberately short production chain, where every step remains under ASBA’s control.

Like every instrument that leaves our workshop, each METAL is built to order, stamped with the date of its final assembly, and hand-signed.
